Virtual Walk to Raise Funds for Cancer Care for Valley Residents
Desert Cancer Foundation has announced the 14th Annual Paint El Paseo Pink will be a virtual walk for breast cancer awareness benefiting the cancer care needs of local valley residents. People can choose to walk in their own community, or in public parks and surrounding areas, individually or as teams. Using social media, they can post check-ins, images, live feeds and hashtags about their participation to further raise awareness and create community engagement in support of the event. The virtual walk will take place at 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2020, and registration is now available online at www.paintelpaseopink.org.
Registration is only $25 and includes a pink commemorative T-shirt. Funds raised support Desert Cancer Foundation’s Patient Assistance Programs which pays for cancer care for local residents of the Coachella Valley and surrounding communities.
“Like so many others, we’ve shifted our plans due to the pandemic for our beloved annual Paint El Paseo Pink. By creating a virtual event we are able to engage the entire Valley from right where they live,” said event co-chair and board member, Deborah McGarrey. “We hope people will officially participate by registering online as it is important to helping us raise dollars to pay for cancer care for people in our community who cannot afford treatment.”
While walking teams have been an option for the annual Paint El Paseo Pink, this year gated communities and HOA’s are invited to be involved by engaging residents in their neighborhoods to walk and show their support– while practicing social distancing and wearing face masks. Those walking as a team can designate an official team name and have the opportunity for fun competition, all for a great cause.
Neighborhood and gate pink ribbon signage will be available to those communities and HOA’s participating. In addition, pink ribbon lawn signs in which can be written on, noting if they are walking in honor of someone, a survivor, or other messages, will be available for anyone to purchase to further raise funds for our valley neighbors in need. For those not able to participate but would like to make a donation, they can donate to teams formed for the walk, or by visiting www.desertcancerfoundation.org.
A kick-off ceremony will be held by Desert Cancer Foundation leadership, committee members, and others on El Paseo, via a live social media stream. El Paseo merchants are encouraged to continue their support by purchasing pink ribbon signs and window clings, and at their discretion may have special offers available for the day for registrants, who might later visit El Paseo to dine and shop.
