The Family YMCA of the Desert Celebrates Paula Simonds’ Impact and announces Leadership Transition

The Family YMCA of the Desert announces that Paula Simonds, Chief Executive Officer, will be transitioning from her role in the coming weeks to accept a leadership position with Alzheimers Coachella Valley, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and related conditions.

Simonds has served the YMCA with distinction, leading the organization through a period of growth, strengthened community partnerships, and expanded programming. Under her leadership, the YMCA advanced strategic initiatives to increase access, deepen community engagement, and strengthen its role as a trusted resource for families across the Coachella Valley.

“It has been an incredible honor to serve the Family YMCA of the Desert,” said Simonds. “This organization is built on people, purpose, and community, and I am deeply grateful for the staff, volunteers, members, and partners who make this mission come alive every day.”

Simonds’ transition reflects a personal and professional calling to serve families navigating neurodegenerative diseases, an area where she brings both lived experience and a strong commitment to community impact.

“The YMCA has been an important chapter in my life and leadership journey,” Simonds added. “I leave with great pride in what we have accomplished together and deep confidence in the organization’s future,”

The YMCA Board of Directors will work closely with leadership and staff to ensure a smooth transition and continued momentum in serving the community. Plans for interim leadership and the search process will be announced in the coming weeks.

“The Board is grateful for Paula’s years of dedicated service and the leadership she has provided,” said Meegan Villa, Board President. “Her commitment to mission and community has made a lasting impact, and we wish her every success in this next chapter.”

The Family YMCA of the Desert remains committed to its mission of strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
