Habitat for Humanity Coachella Valley Celebrates World Habitat Day with the Opening of Two New Home Projects in Indio

Habitat for Humanity Coachella Valley officially resumed construction on two new Habitat homes in Indio, California at 43-689 Arabia St, and 43-655 Towne St. Originally slated to be completed by June 2020, the projects were delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions.

It is particularly fitting that Habitat begins construction of its two newest homes on World Habitat Day. In 1985 the United Nations designated that the first Monday of October was to be a day to reflect on the state of our towns and cities, and on the basic right of all to adequate shelter. In 2020, having an adequate home is now, more than ever, a matter of life and death.

As COVID-19 continues to spread, people have been told to stay at home, but this simple measure is impossible for people who do not have adequate housing.

Families have been selected from our local communities to partner with Habitat Coachella Valley in the construction. They will then purchase the homes through an affordable mortgage from a local bank. The homes are expected to be completed by the end of 2020.
