Children and Families in Crisis – An Education Conference Presented by The Unforgettables Foundation

The Unforgettables Foundation and Title Sponsor, The Auen Foundation present the 6th Annual Children in Crisis Conference on March 15 at California State University/San Bernardino, Palm Desert Campus. Keynote Speaker, Dr. James Garbarino, will address the topic: “When Kids Kill Kids”. Dr. Garbarino, is a professor at Loyola University, Chicago and a world authority on kid’s violence and author of the legendary work “Lost Boys”; about the roots of violent behavior in young men and children.

The Children in Crisis Conference series was created to help educate and equip the community, professionals, parents, educators and students in the Southern California area to better understand, identify and intervene in areas of life that can lead to the death of kids. In partnership with Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, the Barbara Sinatra Center, Operation Safehouse and The Betty Ford Center, the past topics have been: “Youth Choices and Trauma”; “Bullying & Suicide in Teens”; “Child Abuse in All Forms”; “Trapped by Addiction: How to Find the Way Out” and last year’s “Life Saving Parenting: What Works and What Doesn’t”.

This year’s topic, “When Kids Kill Kids”— and Dr Garbarino’s presentation entitled Vision for Prevention will start the 2/3-day training event, focusing on how violent and pathological influences and signs need to be taken seriously. Partnering group Young Visionary’s Academy and CEO Terrance Stone, a nationally known gang interventionist – make this event very timely and useful in light of school & street-based violence.

The event will conclude with a 1pm “Light for Little Lives,” a touching dove release and candle lighting ceremony on the University Mall Lawn where memorial flags will wave in honor of children from across Riverside County who have dies during the past year.
