Coachella Valley Rescue Mission Still   Needs Food Donations For Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving  Day is fast approaching and for many needy families, that day can be a struggle to make the difficult choice to pay the rent and utilities or buy groceries.  For the homeless, there will be no feasting and watching football with pumpkin pie dessert.

The Coachella Valley Rescue Mission is still in great need for holiday food items.

“We have seen a drastic reduction in food donations over the last several months, and our pantry is operating at an all-time low for us,” said Executive Director Amanda Galindo.  “Our need now is critical as we move toward the fall and winter seasons, where the requests for assistance are greater than ever before.”

Every Thanksgiving, the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission reaches out to the hungry and homeless throughout the Coachella Valley by serving traditional holiday meals.  Anyone is invited to attend.  These special public meals are provided in addition to the more than 900 meals served daily, 365 days a year to those arriving at CVRM with nowhere else to go. “In total, we anticipate serving over 39,000 meals this Thanksgiving season, “Galindo said.

CVRM also distributes special holiday food boxes to local food-insecure families.  During an average month, more than 700 food boxes are distributed, and November will be no exception.

The Mission is grateful to all who generously help someone in need enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal. CVRM is asking for the community’s support through gift-in-kind donations of the following:

•   Turkeys                             •   Ham

•   Stuffing                              •   Bacon

•   Potatoes                            •   Eggs

•   Sweet potatoes                  •   Pies

•   Canned Vegetables            •   Whipped Cream

•   Butter                                •   Canned Cranberry Sauce

This year, Thanksgiving dinner will be served on Wednesday, November 26 from 2 pm to 6 pm and on Thanksgiving Day, November 27.  Breakfast will be served from 6 am to 10 am and dinner from 4 pm  to 6 pm.  CVRM is located at 47-470 Van Buren St, Indio.

Founded in 1971, the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission provides food, clothing, and safe shelter for needy people.  Additionally, CVRM helps people end their cycle of homelessness with extensive counseling, job training, and job placement services. Please visit us at CVRM.org.
