Desert Arc announces acquisition of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to reach its ultimate goal of equipping its entire Transportation Fleet with this critical life-saving medical equipment, as the recipient of a major grant award from Desert Healthcare District & Foundation.
All Desert Arc Buses, Vans, and Service Vehicles transporting people with disabilities served by Desert Arc’s mission, will have an AED on board with CPR-AED-First Aid Certified trained drivers and case management staff.
Desert Arc, possibly the first in the Coachella Valley and possibly the first in the country, will lead this important initiative with a panel discussion featuring subject matter experts regarding the use of these Automated External Defibrillators for the safety of its clients (people with disabilities) who receive curb-to-curb, round-trip transportation service from home to programs or jobs Monday through Friday. These Automated External Defibrillators would also be accessible to the general public, in the event of an emergency in the path of one of Desert Arc’s vehicles.

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are lightweight portable devices that deliver an electronic shock through the chest to the heart. The shock can potentially stop an irregular heartbeat and allow normal heart rhythm to resume following sudden cardiac arrest.
Desert Arc is celebrating its 65th Anniversary. This leading nonprofit’s mission is to enhance the quality of life and create opportunities for people with disabilities. It is widely known that people with disabilities are at a higher risk of cardiac episodes than the general population. Adults with disabilities are three times as likely to have heart disease as compared to adults without disabilities. Certain disabilities can impair an individual’s ability to recognize symptoms and seek help. And, people with disabilities may have a higher incidence of cardiac risk factors such as physical inactivity, obesity, and smoking.
MEDIA REPRESENTATIVES PLEASE CONFIRM YOUR ATTENDANCE BY LATEST THURSDAY, MAY 16th TO MADELINE ZUCKERMAN AT Madeline@zuckerman-marketing.net or call her at 714-815-3694.
