Don’t MiND Me is a nonprofit organization founded in May 2021 by actress Mädchen Amick, her husband David Alexis, and their children Mina Tobias and Sylvester Alexis. Motivated by their family’s personal experiences with mental illness and the challenges of navigating a fragmented healthcare system, they established the foundation to combat stigma and provide direct support to those in need .
The foundation’s mission centers on three pillars: advocacy, action, and accessibility. Through initiatives like the “What’s On Your Mind” speaker series, they engage high-profile individuals, mental health professionals, and community voices to share lived experiences and effective resources . Their annual Crisis Intervention Scholarship Fund offers financial assistance for specialized treatment to individuals with severe mental illness who lack sufficient insurance coverage .
A significant project underway is the development of the Mental Health Recovery of Palm Springs, a comprehensive treatment center designed to provide integrative services addressing mental health, substance use disorders, crisis stabilization, and long-term wellness . This initiative aims to create the kind of supportive environment the founders wish had been available to their loved one years ago.
Don’t MiND Me also emphasizes inclusivity by partnering with organizations that support BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities, striving to eliminate mental health disparities and promote culturally responsive care .
