American Friends of our Armed Forces (AFAF) is hosting its 20th Annual “Salute to our Troops” fundraiser with an exclusive concert with the Motown group Four Tops. The special event raises funds to benefit members of the area’s armed forces and their families.

April 1 begins with a gourmet dinner and hosted bar, followed by a patriotic program and private concert by Hall of Fame recording artists – Four Tops. The Motown group, with 24 “Top 40” smash hits, will bring back memories with their record-selling songs, “Baby I Need Your Loving” and “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch”). To open the program, 103-year-old Dorothee Irwin, who enlisted in the Marines during World War II, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The award-winning Marine Cadets from Desert Hot Springs High School will join the celebration with the Presentation of Colors.

On April 2, the fundraising continues with AFAF’s 20th Annual Golf Classic. Participants will enjoy a hot breakfast, a round of golf at the renowned Toscana Golf Club, lunch and awards. Before the shotgun start, America’s greatest golf trick-shot artist Dan Boever will entertain with his amazing talents. On the field, foursomes will include a sponsored Marine golfer from one of the three major bases in Southern California. Top teams will receive trophies, and prizes will be awarded in “closest to the pin” contests. A $10,000 hole-in-one contest is also up for grabs. All golfers will receive special participation gifts.

This special event honors Marines and their families from Twentynine Palms, Camp Pendleton and Miramar, representing more than 60,000 Marines stationed at these bases. AFAF is an all-volunteer nonprofit based in the Coachella Valley dedicated to supporting the men and women serving in the armed forces. AFAF supports various programs benefiting military personnel and their families through scholarships, holiday gift cards, baby showers, summer camps, youth sports activities and more.
