The 15th Annual Fortem Financial Thanksgiving Day 5K Benefitting Martha’s Village and Kitchen Goes to a Virtual Format

For the second year in a row, the annual Thanksgiving Day 5K promoting hunger relief in the Coachella Valley will go on virtually.

Martha’s Village & Kitchen and Fortem Financial hoped to return to an in-person format for this year’s event. However, due to the uncertainty of COVID-19 and the Delta variant, they’re switching gears.

The 15th annual Thanksgiving 5K was scheduled for Thursday, November 25, 2021 in Palm Desert. Now, participants can participate virtually from anywhere from Thursday, November 25, 2021, through Sunday, November 28, 2021.

While they would have rather held it in person, organizers say this will keep the community safe and allow even more people to take part from anywhere in the United States.

“The switch to virtual was a hard decision, says President and CEO of Martha’s Village & Kitchen, Linda Barrack. But the decision was made with a ‘community first’ mindset. We know the best way to serve our community is to hold the safest event possible while still raising funds for hunger relief. Even though we are apart, we are connected, and we want people to participate wherever they are.”

Participants will complete a 5K run, jog or walk and share it through social media. To commemorate the event, registrants are being asked to take photos and share them with Martha’s Village & Kitchen using the hashtag #MVK5K.
