41-year-old Non-Profit Gears Up Offering Telehealth Services Nationwide

The Neuro Vitality Center(NVC) has announced the appointment of Dr. Jay Seller as its new Executive Director. Dr. Seller, who was previously the Executive Director of NeuAbility, a community health and spinal cord injury rehabilitation center in Denver, Colorado, has an extensive background in healthcare and non-profit administration and has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards. NVC has been providing person-centered care, support, education, and research, to individuals and their families living with stroke, dementia, traumatic brain injury, and Parkinson’s Disease, as well as other chronic health conditions since 1978.

Beverly Greer, CEO of the Neuro Vitality Center, says “We’re excited to welcome Dr. Seller to our team. His non-profit and health care experience, combined with a background in communication and technology, will help us further expand services and navigate through these challenging times.” Greer reports that Covid-19 has forced a complete re-design of in-person practice models.

NVC is addressing this by launching a new virtual clinic with telehealth appointments for patients across the country. NVC’s telehealth program begins with a patient evaluation. “As a part of the evaluation, we administer depression and loneliness scales and monitoring outcomes with the goal in mind of reducing isolation and enhancing mental health during this time of enforced sheltering in place. This gives us the ability to design programs for each individual, dependent upon their needs. Additionally, there is the benefit of slight respite for caregivers while the patient is engaged with their program,” says Greer.

“The new programs we are developing utilize HIPAA compliant video interfaces and telephonic tracking along with home-delivered meals that may include crafts projects, games, and exercise instructions. Patients who do not have computers get tablets that are set up so they may join in the group activities or receive one-on-one counseling and instruction on video. This enhances the experience and gives the clinical staff the opportunity to visually assess the patient’s health and well-being. A major advantage is that we can offer services to a broader geographic area since the patients do not need to travel to the center.” says Dr. Seller.
