Adaptive Bike Program – United Cerebral Palsy of the Inland Empire

United Cerebral Palsy of the Inland Empire’s (UCPIE) Adaptive Bike Program (UCPIE Team Freedom) provides the gift of an adaptive bike to individuals with mobility disabilities such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida and other disabilities. Each adaptive bike is custom made to the level of support needed by each individual.

Eligibility Requirements

A candidate must be diagnosed with a qualifying disability, reside within the Inland Empire, and sign a liability waiver. In addition, candidates must fill out the bike application, provide all requested documentation: proof of address, letter of recommendation, proof of disability, personal biography and submit these documents to sofia@ucpie.org.

If approved, qualified individuals will be placed in a blind drawing. Each customized adaptive bike costs $3,500.00 to $4,000.00. Bikes are awarded to recipients based upon funds that UCPIE raises throughout the year. To assist in this effort, join UCPIE Team Freedom!

UCPIE Team Freedom

United Cerebral Palsy of the Inland Empire’s Team Freedom is comprised of children and adults with special needs, their family members, and members of the community like YOU!

Team Freedom’s goals:

  • Participate as a team in Tour de Palm Springs, one of the largest non-competitive cycling events in the United States.
  • Raise money to purchase adaptive bikes for our special needs community.

Team Freedom members walk and/or ride a one-mile leg of the Tour de Palm Springs event. Nearly all Team Freedom walkers/riders have received an adaptive bike through UCPIE’s adaptive bike program. Each special needs walker/rider raises pledges, and/or sell raffle tickets to help us raise funds to gift more custom made adaptive bikes.

Creating Smiles, Freedom & Belonging

Since 2012 UCPIE has presented over 70 special needs children and adults with their very own adaptive bicycles. These adaptive bikes are custom made for each individual. Each bike recipient is evaluated and fitted to receive a custom engineered bike for his/her abilities. These incredible bikes help recipients in meeting their physical therapy goals! The adaptive bikes also allow our special needs children and adults to join in on the fun with their families at the park, neighborhood and many special events.

Each individually customized adaptive bike costs between $3,500-$4,000 and not covered by insurance. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to provide a “Life without Limits” to many UCPIE families. We could not possibly do this without your generous support.
