“Even a pandemic cannot diminish the enormous spirit of philanthropy within the Coachella Valley,” stated Brian Daly, President of the Association of Fundraising Professionals CA, Desert Communities Chapter. “2021 Is an exceptional year with countless acts of remarkable philanthropy in response to the global pandemic. We know this is a somber and difficult time for many communities across our country, bringing unprecedented change not only to the nonprofit sector, but to society as a whole. But we also know the power of philanthropy and community. This year’s extraordinary Honorees shine a light on the kindness and generosity we witness every day in our community,” Daly continued.

Founded in 1960, the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is the professional association of individuals and organizations which generates philanthropic support for a wide variety of charitable institutions, advancing philanthropy forward through its 31,556 members in 244 chapters throughout the world. AFP works to foster philanthropy through advocacy, research, education, and professional certification programs, while promoting high ethical standards in the fundraising profession. The AFP CA., Desert Communities Chapter currently boasts a membership of 86 fundraising professionals within the Coachella Valley.

Celebrating its 61-year milestone, National Philanthropy Day® is a special day set aside for the purpose of recognizing the great contribution philanthropy makes to our society. Here in the Coachella Valley, it is a day when we pay tribute to our own – the exemplary local philanthropists, businesses, and organizations who give so generously of their time, talents, skills, and financial support, in order to make our community a much better place for us all. The Desert Communities Chapter of AFP believes that philanthropy benefits not only our own communities, but enriches and empowers the global community. National Philanthropy Day® offers an opportunity to reflect on the true meaning of charitable giving and the spirit that makes such generosity possible.

“Philanthropy is defined as “love of humanity,” which is our theme for NPD 2021, stated Josh N. Zahid, National Philanthropy Day® In The Desert Chair. “Today’s Honorees reflect the generosity of heart not only for financial support, but also with their actions, their time, and their passionate commitment to causes that improve the lives of so many people here in the Valley. Every year I am inspired by the love of humanity demonstrated by our Honorees,” he continued.
