The Kickoff Starts With Greater Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Mixer At CVRM
Coachella Valley Rescue Mission today announces the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the $2.5 million Women’s and Children’s Shelter expansion to provide safety, stability, and support for vulnerable families in the Coachella Valley.
The 10 a.m. celebration will take place on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the new shelter location, 47470 Van Buren St., Indio. Davina Garcia, CVRM Women’s Program manager, will be among the keynote speakers.
The day starts with a Greater Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Mixer at 8:00 AM, hosted by CVRM, followed by the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Guests attending the mixer are encouraged to stay for the ceremony.
The $2.5 million expansion will provide an additional 60 beds for women and children facing homelessness, as well as a new kitchen, laundry facilities, shared areas, and a playground. This vital project was made possible through the generosity of donors and community partners who share the Mission’s vision of offering a pathway to stability and independence.
“This expansion is more than just additional space. It is a promise of hope for the mothers and children we serve,” said Executive Director. Darla Burkett. “We invite local leaders, business owners and members of the community to join us in celebrating this milestone and witnessing firsthand the impact of their support.”
The event welcomes elected officials, business leaders, donors, volunteers, and community members who have played a role in making this expansion a reality. Guests will have the opportunity to tour the new facility and learn more about the Mission’s ongoing efforts to combat homelessness.
Founded in 1971, CVRM has been a beacon of hope for those in crisis, providing food, clothing, safe shelter, and comprehensive services, including counseling, job training, and placement assistance. The first Women’s and Children’s Shelter has 48 beds.
