– The Coachella Valley Rescue Mission (CVRM) is proud to announce it has been selected as a 2026 California Nonprofit of the Year by Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez of the 36th Assembly District. CVRM is among more than 100 nonprofits statewide honored by their state legislators for outstanding contributions to the communities they serve.

Founded in 1971, the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission has served the Coachella Valley for more than five decades, providing food, clothing, and safe shelter to those experiencing homelessness and poverty. Each year, CVRM serves more than 300,000 meals, provides over 90,000 bed nights, and conducts approximately 100 street outreach contacts each week. Through its Life Transformation Program, CVRM helps individuals break the cycle of homelessness with counseling, job training, and job placement services, achieving an 80–82% long-term success rate.

“This recognition is a reflection of the dedication and compassion of our staff, volunteers, and donors who show up every day for the most vulnerable members of our community,” said Amanda Galindo, Executive Director. “We are deeply grateful to Assemblyman Gonzalez for this honor, and we remain committed to serving the Coachella Valley with excellence and grace.”

“We are grateful for the work of the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission and want to extend our congratulations for this well-deserved recognition,” said Geoff Green, CEO of the California Association of Nonprofits (CalNonprofits), which sponsors the initiative. “Nonprofits are among our country’s most trusted organizations and an integral part of civil society. There’s likely never been a more important time to lift up the contributions nonprofits make within the communities they serve.”

Now in its eleventh year, the California Nonprofit of the Year initiative allows each state legislator to recognize an organization doing outstanding work in their district. The program culminates with a celebratory luncheon at the State Capitol on California Nonprofits Day, set for May 20, 2026. CalNonprofits sponsor the program in partnership with the state Senate and Assembly Select Committees on the Nonprofit Sector.
