Affordable All-Hand Car Wash Will Feature Palm Springs Police Officers
Drying Participating Vehicles
Desert Hand Car Wash, a popular car wash that has been keeping vehicles clean in Palm Springs for more than 75 years, will hold a special fundraising event to support the Palm Springs Police Officers Association. On Tuesday, October 22 from 7 am to 5 pm, teams of Palm Springs police officers will hand-dry all cars that participate that day. Fifty percent of all revenue for the day will be donated by Desert Hand Car Wash to the Police Officer’s Association, which will use the funds to support fallen first responders and citizens in the community with special needs. No reservations are needed to participate and all cars that come in that day will help generate the donations.
“I believe in helping to build community,” said Bob Smiland, Desert Hand Car Wash owner. “Holding events like this to help out the dedicated members of our local police force is just one way we are giving back to our community that has supported this business for more than seven decades. We are delighted to join forces with the Palm Springs Police Officers Association to help those in need.”
Established in 1947, the decades-old Desert Hand Car Wash is owned by Smiland since 2022, a customer of the car wash for more than 20 years. Owning this venerable landmark business allowed Smiland to support the businesses’ hard-working crew by providing higher pay and income growth to their working-class families, establishing a college fund, and offering other new benefits to ensure his crew continues to build a strong future for their families. The event is sponsored by Tony’s Grill and Bar, Gameday Men’s Health, Townie Bagels, Club 541, H3K Home + Design, and Hair of the Dog.
“We are proud to partner with Bob Smiland and the Desert Hand Car Wash,” said PSPOA President, Sgt. Joseph Cook and Vice President, Sgt. Michael Torres. “Not only will this fun event help the Police Officers Association raise funds for critical operations, but it also provides our officers with yet another way of directly engaging with the members of our community. We look forward to participating in this event.”
As an added promotion, local radio station KGAY will do a live “Out & About” broadcast with on-air personality John Taylor at the Car Wash from 10 am – 12 noon on the day of the event.
