Desert Recreation Foundation Announces New Executive Director

Desert Recreation Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Amy Crabb as Executive Director effective November 8. The Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Desert Recreation District where she will also serve as the Fund Development Administrator.

“I am thrilled to join the important work of the Foundation and the Foundation Board to ensure all residents of Coachella Valley have equitable access to parks and recreation facilities and the programs they include,” said Crabb. “I am particularly excited by the work the District and their partners in the east valley. In most cases, these are the only recreational opportunities available to these communities.”

Crabb brings over 35 years of strategic planning, leadership, fundraising, marketing, event planning, and public relations experience to the District and the Foundation. Previously she served as Senior Manger Development for The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens. Prior to that she was in Sonoma County, CA where she served as Executive Director for the Sonoma County Lodging Association, Executive Director for the North Bay Area chapter of the American Heart Association, and Director of Development for the Council on Aging.

“As the Desert Recreation District grows and reaches deeper to benefit the community, the Foundation Board is excited to have Amy’s depth of knowledge and experience to expand the Desert Recreation Foundation,” explains Kevin Kalman, General Manager of the Desert Recreation District. “The Foundation will serve as a vital and effective opportunity for capital planning of new parks by funding infrastructure improvement and land purchases, and in serving our community members in expanded services.”

As the largest park and recreation district in California, Desert Recreation District manages, maintains, and assists in managing over 30 parks and recreation facilities throughout Coachella Valley offering diverse programs and classes that promote active, healthy lifestyles for residents of all ages. Desert Recreation Foundation works behind the scenes to ensure access to all residents.
