Dr. Carreon Foundation Scholarship Application Process Now Open

Scholarship awards have expanded for 2023 to include other ethnicities and the Eastern Inland Empire

Dr. Carreón Foundation (DCF) invites high school seniors and college students to apply for a 2023 scholarship with the application process now open for submissions. This year marks an expansion of the scholarship awards to include other ethnicities in addition to Mexican – American heritage.

Qualifications to apply include being a full-time high school senior in the Eastern Inland Empire and Blythe, or enrolled as a full-time student in college or a trade school; have earned at least a 3.0 unweighted grade point average for all four years of high school work completed; and are able to demonstrate qualities of good citizenship, leadership and financial need.

In 2022, 56 scholarships were awarded to students from Palm Springs Unified School District, Desert Sands Unified School District, Coachella Valley Unified School District and Palo Verde Unified School District. Scholarship monies can be used toward tuition, living expenses, or school supplies while pursuing higher education by attending college or a vocational trade school.

Dr. Carreón Foundation has awarded nearly $2 million in total scholarships to over 800 students who have attended schools locally and across the country including College of the Desert, Cal State San Bernardino Palm Desert Campus, the University of Southern California, UCLA, MIT and Harvard University, to name a few. Working in collaboration with OneFuture Coachella Valley (OFCV) to raise money in supporting the scholarship program, every dollar donated to the Foundation is matched by OFCV and the Foundation to become three.

Students interested in applying for a 2023 scholarship can apply at www.carreonfoundation.org. Applications will be taken now through March 17, 2023. Awards will be announced at the end of April 2023.

The Foundation provides scholarships in various amounts to students with Mexican/Latino ancestry from all Coachella Valley high schools, and Palo Verde High School in Blythe. To apply students need a minimum 3.0 GPA, be involved in bettering their community, and demonstrate leadership skills and financial need.

Scholarships range from $1,500 to $5,000. These funds are raised with the support of local organizations and individuals, along with long-time partner OneFuture Coachella Valley. In its 31 years, the Foundation has awarded almost $2 million in scholarships to over 800 students. Recipients have attended schools locally and across the country including College of the Desert, CSUSB Palm Desert, University of Southern California, UCLA, MIT, and Harvard University, to name a few.
