Friends of the Palm Springs Library Celebrate 50 Years

The Friends of the Palm Springs Library (Friends), established in 1971, have been supporting the Palm Springs Public Library for 50 years—it’s time to celebrate!

In honor of this milestone the Friends, along with the creativity and graphic design generously donated by local Palm Springs artist DaVidRo, have created special merchandise, t-shirts, totes and aprons, with a beautiful graphic image of the koi fish. Funds from the Friends provide the maintenance to keep the koi pond thriving. All proceeds from the sale of the merchandise will directly support the needs of the library and continue this support.

With over 1 million dollars in gifts and support to the Library over the years providing for equipment, materials, programs, and special needs, “the Friends have been a pillar of support for the Library,” said Jeannie Kays, Director of Library Services. “This, combined with the countless hours of volunteer service the Friends have provided to the Library, make the library a better place and we are so very grateful for their support” said Kays.

In honor of their anniversary the colorful merchandise will be displayed in the Friends book sale shelves at the Library and available for purchase at the front desk beginning October 1st, just in time for the holidays! The t-shirts come in child and adult sizes and are available in three colors and five sizes for adults and two colors and three sizes for kids. There are also aprons in three colors and tote bags that are waterproof and have an outside pocket for a water bottle and expanding gusset for all your needs. Price for t-shirts are $25 adult/$22 kids, $18 for the apron and $20 for the tote.

“The Friends are committed to the Library and our community,” said Nanci Morrison, President of the Friends of the Palm Springs Library, “we are proud of our accomplishments over the last 50 years and are excited for what is next for the Library and we will be there to support all efforts!”

Friends of the Palm Springs Library raise funds for the library through daily and annual book sales, special events, planned giving, annual dues and grants. The Friends are also a registered charity with AmazonSmile.com, making it possible, if selected when shopping online, for a percentage of most of the purchases made to go to the Friends of the Palm Springs Library!

The Friends mission is to support the Library in providing world-class service to the community through the purchase of books, movies, music, the visual arts, furnishings, and electronic equipment by advocating for funding, gifts and memorials. The Friends also raise awareness about the library and are the link between the Library and the community and its elected officials. The Friends support programs that encourage reading, culture, and the arts as well as volunteer-based activities to support our greater community.
