Galilee Center Description of Services/Impact

Mission:

To fulfill the needs of the underprivileged and disadvantaged by providing food, clothing, and other basic needs and affirm their dignity with love, compassion, and respect.

Services:

The core programs of Galilee Center are food and housing emergency services and offer several other programs that support the health and well-being of families, children, and seniors.

We support local families in the East Valley with the following:

  • Weekly food basket distributions
  • Baby formula and diaper distributions
  • Clothing vouchers
  • Rental/utility assistance
  • Adult diapers and nutrition drinks for seniors
  • School supplies and backpack distributions
  • Holiday distributions (food and gifts for children)

In addition, Our Lady of Guadalupe shelter at Galilee Center provides shelter to migrant farm workers working during the harvest seasons and families seeking asylum. The services include sleeping quarters, three meals a day, showers and laundry services, and a common area for relaxation. We also provide emergency transfer services to asylum seekers.

Impact:

The Galilee Center has a significant impact on low-income residents of Eastern Coachella Valley.   In 2022, the emergency food services provided:

  • 11,615 food baskets to 46,4607 people.
  • 371,680 meals were provided based on each family of four receiving enough food for two meals per day for 4 days.
  • Baby items such as formula, diapers, and baby food were provided to 302 families.
  • The Our Lady of Guadalupe Shelter helped 109 migrant farm workers working in the fields in East Coachella Valley and 2,904 asylum seekers.
  • Rental Assistance Program for 175 families and utility assistance to 389 people.

In the spring of 2023, Galilee Center broke ground on a 6,000-square-foot shelter addition that will double housing capacity and expand existing services.
