THE PRODUCTION:
This innovative theatre event will address the many complex layers in the history of Section 14, a one-square-mile tract in downtown Palm Springs. In the mid-60’s the homes of Latino, Black, and other family homes were bulldozed and burned to make way for development, without compensation or housing options for displaced residents. The City Council has publicly discussed paying reparations to survivors and descendants but has not yet made substantial progress toward actual restitution.
This new play will tell the story by honoring the diverse perspectives of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, the City of Palm Springs, the state and national government, and the survivors of the Section 14 neighborhood.
