For more than 30 years, our community has come together — step by step, stride by stride — first in the fight against AIDS, and then in the broader movement for health equity. The Health Equity Walk (formerly known as the Desert AIDS Walk) has been more than a fundraising event. It’s been a symbol of hope, remembrance, activism, and unity. Each year, thousands have gathered to walk in solidarity, raise critical funds, and show what is possible when a community comes together with love and purpose. This legacy began in the earliest days of the AIDS crisis, when our neighbors refused to look away. They walked for those we lost. They walked for those still fighting. They walked for change. And because of those steps, DAP Health has been able to walk with thousands more — providing lifesaving care to people from all walks of life. That spirit will never change. Sunsetting the Walk. Honoring the Impact. As the landscape of fundraising evolves, DAP Health remains committed to being a good steward of the resources and trust our community so generously shares with us. Like many nonprofits across the country, we’ve seen traditional fundraising walks and cycling challenges become harder to justify due to rising costs and diminishing returns. While meaningful, these events have seen a consistent decline in participation and net revenue for several years. In 2024, the Health Equity Walk brought together a community of advocates — celebrating the unwavering commitment of our community. It’s on that high note that we have made the difficult but responsible decision to sunset the event. Walking Forward — Together While we may no longer gather annually for the Walk, our movement toward health equity continues. We invite you to walk with us in new ways:
The Health Equity Walk may be ending, but the journey is far from over. We thank every walker, donor, sponsor, and volunteer who made each step count. Your legacy lives on in every patient we serve, every life we change, and every future we make healthier — together. Your steps made a difference. And the journey continues. |
