Los Angeles Philharmonic to Appear at McCallum Theatre Presented by Palm Springs Friends of Philharmonic

As an exciting crescendo, the Palm Springs Friends of Philharmonic will present the final concert of the 2022-23 subscription series, the Los Angeles Philharmonic on Sunday, April 2 at 5:00PM at the McCallum Theatre. This concert is made possible through the generous support of Phyllis & Gary Schahet and Helene Galen & Jamie Kabler.

We are delighted to once again present our friends from the LA Phil. The exciting young Finnish conductor Dalia Stasevska will represent the first female conductor to perform on our series. In the words of Board President Dean Kauffman – “It’s about time!” 27-year old violinist Randall Goosby, a Southern California native, is acclaimed for his sensitivity and intensity of his musicianship. It will be a stunning “not-to-be-missed” program.

Redefining what an orchestra can be, the LA Phil is as vibrant as Los Angeles, one of the world’s most open and dynamic cities. Led by Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel, this internationally renowned orchestra harnesses the transformative power of live music to build community, foster intellectual and artistic growth, and nurture the creative spirit.

Dalia Stasevska is a Finnish conductor born in 1984. She is currently the principal guest conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and chief conductor of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra and is a guest conductor of the LA Phil. Stasevska studied conducting at theRoyal Swedish Academy of Music, where her teachers included Jorma Panula, and at the Sibelius Academy, where her teachers included Leif Segerstam. In 2002, she earned a diploma from the Sibelius Academy.

From 2010 to 2015, Stasevska was artistic director of the Kamarikesä Festival. From 2014 to 2016, Stasevska was an assistant conductor to Paavo Jarvi at the Orchestre de Paris. In 2015, Stasevska first guest-conducted the Lahti Symphony Orchestra.

In December 2018, she conducted the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra at the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony, the second female conductor ever to conduct the orchestra at the Prize Award Ceremony.

In May 2020, Sinfonia Lahti announced the appointment of Stasevska as its next chief conductor, effective from the 2021–2022 season, with an initial contract of three seasons, and making her the first female conductor to be named chief conductor of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra. This appointment marks her first chief conductor post.

“For me, personally, music has been a way to inspire others” – Randall Goosby’s own words sum up perfectly his commitment to being an artist who makes a difference.

Signed exclusively to Decca Classics in 2020 at the age of 24, American violinist Randall Goosby is acclaimed for the sensitivity and intensity of his musicianship alongside his determination to make music more inclusive and accessible, as well as bringing the music of under-represented composers to light.

Highlights of Randall Goosby’s 2021-22 season included debuts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Gustavo Dudamel at the Hollywood Bowl, Baltimore Symphony under Dalia Stasevska, Detroit Symphony under Jader Bignamini, London Philharmonic Orchestra and Philharmonia Orchestra.
