Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce Announces Walk of the Stars Palm Springs to Honor Ann Sheffer with 460th Star

Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce will honor public arts visionary and humanitarian, Ann Sheffer, with the 460th star on the Walk of the Stars Palm Springs in the category of Humanitarian. The star will be unveiled in the Downtown Palm Springs Park on Wednesday, April 12th, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. The Star Dedication Ceremony is open to the public.

“We are elated to honor the immeasurably talented, Ann Sheffer, with the 460th star on the Walk of the Stars Palm Springs,” said Palm Springs Chamber CEO, Nona Watson.

Where art, education, and the in-depth immersion of politics and the political process meet is where one would find Ann Sheffer. Greatly distinguishing herself through altruistic deeds and significant contributions to her city, state, and country, Sheffer was appointed to the President’s Committee on Arts and Humanities by President Bill Clinton, has been a Board member of Americans for the Arts and its Political Action Fund, served as the Chair for the Palm Springs Public Arts Commission, as well as being part of a myriad of additional humanitarian and philanthropic agencies  as varied as DAP Health, The Inland Empire Community Foundation, The Palm Springs Cultural Center, Dezart Performs, the Palm Springs Art Museum, and the Palm Springs Sister Cities Committee.

Aside from Sheffer’s considerable donation of time and expertise, awards bestowed upon Sheffer include the Athena Visionary Award, presented by the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce; the Equality California Community Leadership Award, with her husband, Bill Scheffler; the Women Who Rule Award, presented by the Women’s Leadership Forum; Women in Philanthropy, presented by Desert Charities; the Palm Springs Human Rights Commission Community Leadership Award; and the Westport (CT) YMCA Faces of Achievement Award, also with her husband, Bill; along with a number of honors given by local organizations in Westport, Connecticut, where Ann (and Bill) originate from.

In addition, Sheffer has been fortunate enough to be able to provide tangible support through her family philanthropy, the Betty R. Sheffer Foundation, named after her late mother, for fifty years.

“Having served on local, state and national arts commissions and boards, I have always believed that the arts play an important role in cities and are more than just a backdrop for selfies,” said Ann. “In Palm Springs, the Public Arts Commission has brought playful and meaningful art to downtown and the neighborhoods and parks, including murals and art installations that reflect the current issues facing us. I am delighted to have a Star at the intersection of so many exciting projects on Museum Way, which we hope will one day be an Art Promenade from Town and Country to the Palm Springs Art Museum.”
