Palm Springs Friends of Philharmonic Announces $50,000 in Music Grants

Palm Springs Friends of Philharmonic (PS Phil) has announced that a significant part of their 50th Anniversary celebration in 2024 is a grant program that benefits music programs at local schools in the Coachella Valley. PS Phil is reaching out to all music teachers throughout the region in middle and high schools.

PS Phil has presented world-renown orchestras to patrons of the Coachella Valley for 50 years and as part of their golden Anniversary celebration will award $50,000 in grants through a Music Grant Fund to support music education in local schools.

These grants of up to $7,500 each will provide a much-needed injection of funds to boost music programs in the Desert Sands, Palm Springs, and Coachella Valley School Districts as well as all private schools. The DEADLINE to apply for the grants is FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2023.

PS Phil will announce the final award winners in November 2023, prior to the start of its 50th Anniversary Season, which begins with the Los Angeles Philharmonic conducted by the iconic and legendary Maestro Zubin Mehta on Thursday, January 4, 2024!

This major influx of grant funding was the brainchild of the PS Phil Board of Directors during the COVID-19 pandemic, in which they provided special Emergency Music Grants to alleviate some of the financial struggles of local schools’ music programs. Given the overwhelming success of this grant program during COVID-19, they decided to repeat the program as part of their 50th Anniversary season.

“Making music a part of a child’s education not only enriches their experience in school, but also improves academic skills and cognitive functioning. Music programs also teach children a high level of discipline and how to work as a team to derive a common vision and goal,” said Marnie Mitze, Executive Director, PS Phil.
