San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Awards Olive Crest Inland and Desert Communities $ 200,000 Grant For Child Abuse Prevention in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties

By Madeline Zuckerman

The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians has announced it has awarded Olive Crest Desert Communities and Inland a $200,000 grant to support the organization’s “Child Abuse Stops Here®” initiative to benefit at-risk children and their families in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.  The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians has enjoyed a long-standing 21-year relationship with Olive Crest, the recognized leader in the prevention and treatment of child abuse for over 45 years.

The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Chairman Ken Ramirez  shares that it has been an honor to partner with Olive Crest for the past two decades.

“For many years, Olive Crest has focused on healing and improving the lives of children in our community who have suffered from abuse,” Ramirez says.  “The Tribe is proud to have partnered with Olive Crest since 2005, to invest in the health of our youth for generations to come, and to support the development of healthy and resilient communities.”

This funding will support Olive Crest’s many vital programs, to grow and expand local efforts toward child abuse prevention, including many safety-net services, as well as after-care services, all of which provide much-needed stability for vulnerable children and their families within the Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.  This will significantly increase volunteer support, enabling an additional 260 children to find safe and loving homes in short-term, long-term, and permanent placements.  It also allows for regular and expanded communication with local agencies to encourage valuable collaboration and dissemination of information to the Olive Crest children and families the organization serves.

“This grant supports the Olive Crest initiative to go forward to build healthier and more resilient communities by developing and expanding community partnerships,” stated Tracy Fitzsimmons, Executive Director of Olive Crest’s Inland and Desert Communities Region.  “Our valuable 21-year relationship with the San Manuel Band Of Mission Indians is central to our work with the community.  We’re so grateful for their trust and belief in the services of Olive Crest.”
