Savanna Sandals Announces Contribution to African Childrens Haven

From Denver to Africa: Savanna Sandals will donate a portion of net sales to the organization, which supports impoverished children and families across Africa.

Savanna Sandals announced that it intends to enter a philanthropic endeavor with African Childrens Haven. Among other services, African Childrens Haven provides orphan care, teacher support, and nutrition financing to more than 700 children and families. Their area of focus includes Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Kenya. In the summer of 2018, Savanna Sandals offered to donate 10% of net sales to the charity, and the company made its first donation in the Fall of 2018. Savanna Sandals hopes to support their efforts on an ongoing basis.

African Childrens Haven was founded by Ed Sulzberger in late 2006. The charity currently works with 10 projects across Africa, including Mission with a Vision (which supports girls in rural Kenya) and the Overseers Education Centre (which educates children in the impoverished area of Kangemi in East Africa). African Childrens Haven is also partnered with the Starkid School and Rescue Centre, which is the focus of Savanna Sandals’ contribution.

Located on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya, Starkid School and Rescue Centre works with orphans and otherwise vulnerable children. The teaching wing of Starkid School and Rescue Centre enrolls over 230 children, and it provides kindergarten, primary, and secondary school education. Additionally, the rescue wing houses 38 children. The organization also provides midday meals for the children it works with. A portion of Savanna Sandals’ contribution to African Childrens Haven will go toward funding enrollment for an orphan in the Starkid School, one of the organization’s biggest needs.
