Woof!Walk 2023 Festival Fundraiser in Pioneertown Raring to Go April 1, no kidding.

Woof!Walk Festival, the highly anticipated annual fundraiser for the Joshua Tree No-Kill Shelter and Adoption Center, is at the ready and raring to go on April 1 in Pioneertown. Weather is sunny. Jesika von Rabbit is performing. Auctions are amazing. Vendors are treasures. Doggie cuteness is prevalent. Admission is free. All that and more.

Board members of the Morongo Basin Humane Society, the longtime administrators of the Joshua Tree No-Kill Shelter, have collected a wealth of gifts donated by area merchants, commu-nity sponsors, artists and longtime supporters for the live and silent auctions and raffles, including sculptures, artworks, Restaurant and Winery gift cards and goodies, staycations and vacations, Beauty and Wellness packaged deals, and, literally, so much more.

The Woof!Walk 2023 festival, now in its 9th year, will be held at the Pioneertown Wild West The-ater (across from Pappy & Harriet’s) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free.

Registration to join the Mane Street Dog Walk begins at 9 a.m. The registration donation fee is $40. Collect $100 in pledges and registration is free.

The schedule of events includes the Blessing of the Animals at 9:50 a.m.; the Mane Street Dog Walk at 10 a.m.; a parade of rescue dogs led by Top Dog Fundraiser Emmie and her handlers Melissa and Peter Spurr at 10:30 a.m.; Jesika von Rabbit in concert at 11 a.m.; Live Auction at 11:30 a.m., followed by the Silent Auction and Raffle Drawings, and the Woof!Walk Quilt Drawing at 12:30 p.m. Enjoy a full roster of food trucks and beverage booths as well as shopping for treas-ures of vendors throughout the event.

A portion of the monies raised will go to the Joshua Tree No-Kill Shelter capital campaign under-way to fund new shelter facilities that will expand services and animal welfare programs as well as increase its capacity for animal intake.

ABOUT: The Joshua Tree No-Kill Shelter, operated by the Morongo Basin Humane Society, was founded in 1972 and became a No-Kill haven for homeless pets in 2005. The shelter struggled through the years, but armed with a growing show of community support, established a reputation for care and nurturing of abandoned animals that included upfront medical care in advance of adop-tion and long-term sheltering. Today, programs and services in place to save the lives of homeless pets include veterinary care, animal sheltering, animal rescue, pet fostering and pet adoptions plus the Pet Responsibility Classroom Education program run by retired teachers Doris Lawless, Jean Bixby and dog trainer Eddie Hayden. Plans are underway to build new shelter facilities to expand services and animal welfare programs as well as increase capacity for animal intake
