Annenberg Grant Develops New Music Program at Old Town Artisan Studios

Classes to be Offered this Fall for Youth and Adults

– Old Town Artisan Studios, a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization, announced today that they were awarded their second grant from The Annenberg Foundation. The grant will fund the creation of a new music program for youth and adults, starting in September. Music classes will be held at the non-profit’s 3-acre campus, where they also provide art experiences to underserved groups. In the last year, the organization has sought to spread music appreciation through new events like The Art of Music and Open Mic Night, two monthly community-based events that occur in their serene patio gardens. As there is a growing demand for classes at the art campus, the non-profit seeks to add additional art forms to its list of educational offerings. Old Town Artisan Studios plans to use the grant to further its mission to provide positive art experiences in their studios and within their outreach arts program.

“We are very excited to be recognized by the Annenberg Foundation,” said Thomas Burns, Executive Director of Old Town Artisan Studios. “Music has the ability to nurture one’s emotional and social well-being, while being one of the most universal forms of expression throughout the world.” Burns went on to say, “As schools cut back on music and art programs, we see it as our responsibility to help fill that void – to be part of the collective solution.”

The Annenberg Foundation is a family foundation that provides funding and support to non-profit organizations that have a deep level of community involvement. It is generous donations, grants and partnerships such as this that allow Old Town Artisan Studios to provide a robust art program in the heart of La Quinta and the local community.

Old Town Artisan Studios offers fee-based classes and workshops in Clay, Glass, Printmaking, Painting and other art mediums. The fee-based classes help to subsidize the studio’s operational costs, allowing all donations to support the mission to offer free or reduced-fee classes on-site and with their mobile art vans. Key partnerships include Alzheimer’s Association, Boys & Girls Clubs, Hope Through Housing, Jewish Family Services, Variety of the Desert, YMCA, various schools and other organizations throughout the Coachella Valley.
