Delightful Dining + Creative Catering = Eight4Nine

by Andrea Carter

What do you get when you take a hip, trend-setting Palm Springs restaurant and add a premier catering and events company? EIGHT4NINE.
It’s an equation few restauranteurs are able to master: offering something for everyone in an expansive, historic space that’s been upgraded to a chic modern restaurant, while also offering uncompromising quality and impressive presentation with its popular catering division.
While EIGHT4NINE restaurant and lounge has built plenty of buzz and an expansive fan base since it opened its doors in 2015, what some may not know is that 849 Fine Catering & Events is quickly gaining momentum as a top catering and events provider in the desert.
EIGHT4NINE restaurant and lounge came to life in a large historic building that formerly served as Palm Springs’ first U.S. Post Office. Co-owner, Willie Rhine, explains the vision for the restaurant, which encompasses 8,000 sq. ft. at its legendary address.
“I wanted a space that could hold a party for 100, a romantic dinner for 2, a pharmaceutical lecture in a private room or simply enjoy a casual meal at the lounge,” said Rhine. “At EIGHT4NINE you have the ability to do all that at the same time!”
Rhine – who is a 25-year resident of Palm Springs and started his career in the restaurant business at the acclaimed Le Vallauris Restaurant in Palm Springs – opened EIGHT4NINE with his business partner, Celebrity Photographer John Paschal.
EIGHT4NINE’s catering business offers everything from sophisticated tray-passed hors d’oeuvres to transcontinental chef-manned stations to stunning and flavorful dessert displays for all types of celebrations including weddings, private dinners, cocktail parties, corporate events, fundraising parties, charity galas, holiday parties, film and photo shoots, and more. All menus are creatively executed and developed by EIGHT4NINE’s talented culinary team: Executive Chef Israel Jimenez, Pastry Chef Albert Gonzalez, and Catering Manager Oscar Barajas. Rhine and his loving partner, Albert Gonzalez, are very much involved in the community
Rhine is proud to note that EIGHT4NINE has put on some extraordinary events for organizations like Eisenhower Medical Center, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Tiffany & Co and fine dinners for the rich and famous behind the gates in country clubs such as Eldorado, Thunderbird, the Vintage and BIGHORN. EIGHT4NINE will be also be offering food and beverage service at the Palm Springs historic O’Donnell Golf Club, adding another perfect location for any event that will be available to host parties, fundraisers and weddings at the private club when it is not being used by members.
Rhine, Paschal and EIGHT4NINE have helped raise thousands of dollars for charities such as the Desert Aids Project, The Palm Springs Art Museum, The Center, Loving All Animals, Sanctuary Palm Springs, Aids Assistance Program, Michael’s House, ABC Recovery Center, the Braille institute and many others. They also host/sponsor opening nights for The Palm Canyon Theater and Dezart Performs to name a few.
