Green Room Theatre Company Celebrates Official Opening of New Office in Coachella

Green Room Theatre Company Coachella Valley (GRTCCV) recently celebrated its relocation to Coachella with a Greater Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting, and GRTCCV received several recognition certificates from several community entities, including Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz.

Located in the same building as City Hall, the event took place in the surrounding outdoor lawn area with live guitar music performed by Julian Rodriguez and Ambrey Padilla and a special performance by two Ballet Folklorico companies, Retonos de Mexico and Alma de Metztli. The Greater Coachella Valley of Commerce presented a Certificate of Recognition, and the City of Coachella presented a Certificate of Congratulations recognizing GRTCCV as a Coachella Valley business, and as the newest tenant in the City Hall building.

Well-known Coachella Valley Muralist Michael Angelo Hernandez attended and was recognized for the large mural he created for GRTCCV’s recent production Novio Boy which now stands as a backdrop in the office. The mural was created to engage audiences with the Coachella Valley take on Novio Boy. The mural highlights many of the area’s businesses and iconic attractions.

GRTCCV relocated to the City of Coachella with a renewed focus on the Eastern Coachella Valley. Previously based in Palm Desert, GRTCCV has been providing high-quality theatrical productions to audiences for 14 seasons, and this move supports a goal to expand its reach and continue to provide excellent entertainment to local communities, while embracing its broader mission to support and promote the arts in underserved communities.

“We are committed to bringing high quality arts and entertainment regardless of background or financial means, and are excited to embrace audiences who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience such,” said Founder and Executive Artistic Director David Catanzarite. “This is an exciting time for GRTCCV as we open our doors in Coachella and we are planning some amazing productions, as well as opportunities for the local community to get involved by performing with us and enjoying the shows.”

GRTCCV’s recent touring production was the award-winning Gary Soto’s Novio Boy. GRTCCV also works with renowned actors and instructors to bring exciting and innovative programming to students of all ages. Courses include improv (improvisation) workshops, dance and movement programs, script writing workshops, creative drama classes and more. Area residents, both youth and adults, interested in acting and theatre now have access to a first-ever high-quality theatre at the east end of the Valley.

GTRCCV’s new address is 1515 Sixth Street, Coachella, CA 92236. For more information or to get involved with GRTC, please call (760) 696-2546 or visit www.greenroomtheatrecompany.org.
