Letter from CEO of Desert ARC – Richard Balocco

Dear Friend,

Thank you for your belief in Desert Arc’s mission to make a difference in the lives of people with developmental and intellectual disabilities!

I write to you during this time of uncertainty due to the Coronavirus pandemic, because I know you care about the 700+ people with disabilities we serve, and want to tell you how this has affected Desert Arc.

Our nonprofit, human services agency has followed the Governor’s mandates and have temporarily shut down programs. Some of our business services are deemed “essential” and we continue to provide assistance to our community partners such as hospitals and other critical businesses.

I can assure you that our team remains strong and are doing everything possible to get through this situation. This includes our dedicated Board of Directors.

The tall challenge Desert Arc is facing is a financial loss of close to $500,000. Unfortunately, fundraising events have been cancelled and grants we were counting on did not realize fruition as foundation monies were redirected.

Contributed income represents the brick and mortar support for programs and services that are not funded by the State of California. This includes our LVN Nurses and the year-round Sports and Recreation program.

These photos of David, one of our longtime clients, illustrates our dilemma. He took on a seemingly insurmountable challenge for a person with a disability, but he made his way to the top of the climbing wall at Desert Arc’s Camp last year.

I’m inspired by his quest to meet this challenge and in a way see it as a visual metaphor for us to meet the struggles caused by the COVID-19 crisis head on.

These are challenging times, but frankly, I believe there is no wall too high that we can’t climb together. These are defining moments in the world we live in.

Please make a gift to Desert Arc today and help us overcome this challenge!

Your generous, tax-deductible donation to Desert Arc will have an immediate and profound impact!

Thank you,

Richard Balocco
