“Now it feels like the holidays,” says every audience member after a Strong Words holiday performance. The hot Los Angeles story salon makes a triumphant return to CVRep with an all-star cast of storytellers in this special celebration of laughter, good cheer and delicious holiday mayhem. Coachella Valley Repertory will present Strong Words – Stories for Grownups on Sunday, December 19, at 2:00 p.m.
“Everybody loves a great story artfully told,” says Strong Words Artistic Director, Larry Dean Harris. “Our holiday show is an annual tradition in LA, and I’m tickled to bring such a fantastic cast to the desert. We have stories including a nativity pageant gone awry, a non-traditional non-holiday celebration, and even a day in the life of a Macy’s store Santa.” The performance will star Larry Dean Harris (New York Outer Critics Circle, Ovation, GLAAD, LA Weekly Theatre award nominee), Sandra Tsing Loh (The Madwoman in the Volvo, The Loh Down on Science, This American Life), Kevin Chamberlain (Jessie, Wicked, Seussical, The Addams Family), Johanna Stein (How Not to Calm a Child on a Plane, The Doctors), Vicki Juditz (Unfictional), Roy Cruz and Molly Kirschenbaum (My Name is Earl).

Strong Words began in 2011 at the legendary Body Builders Gym in Silver Lake when three members – all writers – banded together to read their work aloud in front of friends and family. “Word” got out and the event began to grow. The show is now a monthly sellout at its luminous outdoor courtyard venue in Atwater Village, Strong Words was invited to open the LA Public Library’s La Made series three consecutive years, and troupe members have performed frequently in the galleries of the Palm Springs Art Museum.
